Hasnain was very angry. It was difficult to calm him down. I had a feeling that his anger was not so much at us but at himself, because Mina's condition was due to his unnecessary delay and neglect, but he had to blame someone and was therefore trying to direct his ire at the doctors who were in the other room valiantly trying to save his wife's life.

It came to a point that I became so fed up with him fighting to go in and disturb the doctors that I tied his hands together and made him sit in a chair, only allowing him to go with Adam to the restroom if he required it.

We were all worried. Time was passing by, and even though we were out of Parachinar, this little unnamed mountain hamlet was easy to reach if one knew the hiking trail. Obviously, having lived here most of his life, Farooq would know about it, and there would be many willing voices to tell him where we had gone if he bullied them enough.

After more than an hour and a half, Marjan finally came out of the room looking for Hasnain's younger brother. She went to the outer door, and at her call a teenaged version of Hasnain walked in.

"Marjan, Farooq is halfway up the hiking trail. You asked me to keep a look out for him. I was just told by one of my friends that he could be here within an hour." He then laughed. "Farooq has become soft; he used to be able to hike here much faster. I will try to distract him, but you will have to leave as soon as you can!"

Sarah had by now convinced Hasnain to guide us down another path. She always amazes me with her knack to calm down and communicate with people—another one of the countless reasons why I admire and love her. Recently I seemed to be counting the ways I loved her—very Shakespearean, I dare say. I couldn't hold back a little giggle. Razia looked at me in surprise, but I just shook my head at her indicating that it was not of any importance. At least not for her.

We left the house from the back door and followed a path that was extremely steep. We had to be careful—just one slip and one could fall down the deep ravine. Gulnaz had strapped Daniyal to her front because he was fussing, and she wanted to feed him as we walked along. He soon fell asleep with the sway of his mother's gait. I was thankful for that. We didn't want to alert our pursuers with a baby's cry if we had to hide from them.

When we were halfway down the mountain, we heard a faint roar of anger. I turned around and saw Farooq pointing at us and trying to run down the path. We could see that someone was trying to hold him back. If he wasn't careful he would slip and plummet down to the ravine below if he tried to rush down blinded by his angry temper.
